We met on Southsea seafront in Portsmouth, Hampshire, planning a relaxed outdoor photo session for 36 people, two dogs and a whole lot of personality. The rain poured down, then suddenly the clouds parted and for about 20 minutes the sun turned the sky into a giant soft box, giving beautiful, natural light that was just right for fun, honest family portrait photography—making the session an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Outfits and overall portrait design had been planned in advance, with simple clothing that let each person’s character shine and kept the focus on connection and emotion, ensuring that genuine emotions and feelings were authentically captured.
