Every wedding is special but Maddie & Harry’s Lainston House wedding was an absolute pleasure to photograph. As a Winchester wedding photographer for over 25 years I’ve been lucky enough to shoot many Lainston House weddings but this one had an extra sparkle. Maddie & Harry were so relaxed in front of the camera which made it easy to capture natural moments. Not only because it was a beautiful day (even with a few spots of rain) but also because of the family connections and lovely friends involved.
I met Maddie years ago when I photographed her sister Josie & Matt’s wedding so it was a joy to be asked to photograph another big day for their family. I’m also good friends with Maddie’s parents Andy & Catherine which made the whole wedding feel so personal.
A Love Story that Began in Vietnam
Maddie & Harry’s love story started when they were both teaching in schools in Vietnam. It’s always great to hear how bride and groom journeys begin and seeing them married here in Hampshire, surrounded by family and friends was lovely. Imagine the happiness and emotion in the room as Maddie and Harry said their vows. Their connection and the happiness in the room during the ceremony was palpable.

On this August afternoon the weather was playing games with us. There were several showers but instead of worrying we just went with it. As soon as the sun came out we dashed outside for some portraits in the Test Valley countryside. It just added to the story of the day and the variety of shots we got gave the couple a mix of images that were full of life and character.

The Day
Lydia Sullivan, the Wedding Manager at Lainston House, deserves a huge thank you. She ran the day with such skill – professional, calm and focused – everything went smoothly from planning to the final dance. Lydia worked closely with Maddie and Harry to bring all their wedding plans to life. The service was fantastic followed by a relaxed drinks reception in the gardens. The bride, groom, bridesmaids and guests all soaked up the atmosphere while we did some group photos with laughter and love all round.
The wedding breakfast was lively and fun. One of the highlights was seeing Maddie and Harry “waved in” to the room with napkins flying as their friends and family cheered them on! Later the cake was cut, heartfelt speeches had everyone laughing and crying and the party was in full swing.
The dance floor was filled with guests from the first song and it was a joy to witness Maddie & Harry having an amazing time at their reception.
Thanks and Memories
Days like this are why I love being a wedding photographer. I’m so thankful to Maddie, Harry and their family for trusting me again to capture these special moments. From the stunning bride in her dress and hair to the groom looking sharp in his suit everything was perfect.
One guest brought his vintage Ferrari - which made for some fantastic photographs!
Looking through the photos today I know these images will be treasured for years to come. Each photo tells a unique story from the day, capturing the emotions, laughter and love that made it so special.
