The New Forest is one of the most atmospheric places to get married in England. Ancient woodland, open heathland, roaming ponies, and soft, shifting light create a setting that feels relaxed, romantic, and quietly dramatic. A New Forest wedding has a different pace to most, and photographing it well takes a real understanding of nature, light, and how a forest wedding day naturally unfolds.

I’m Simon John, a professional wedding photographer and Hampshire wedding photographer, based in the south of England. What it’s like to shoot weddings in the New Forest

A forest wedding follows its own rhythm.

Light in the New Forest is filtered and directional. Sun breaks through branches in pockets rather than wide, open skies, and it changes constantly. As a forest wedding photographer, my job is to read that light, move with it, and create pictures that feel natural rather than forced.

Weather can shift quickly too — misty mornings, overcast afternoons, sudden sunshine later in the day. I plan for all of it so your wedding photography feels calm and consistent, whatever happens. This allows you to stay present and enjoy your big day without worrying about the photos.
